Things I enjoyed about the County Fair:
1.Competing. This was a family effort. The kids started baking at age five for the fair, and winning, sometimes. We all baked, some of us have entered in the drawing/painting/cross-stitching and photography categories, too. Hannah won Jr Homemaker of the year twice.
2. Watching the judging. Making friends with your competition and cheering everyone on.
3. Enjoying the auction of the baked goods after the Thursday competition.seeing how much the best of show items sold for.
4. Winning ribbons. Always fun.
5. Roaming the fair grounds on Mondays while Monday judging is going on, safe enough to let the kids roam on their own.
6. Gyros, Fresh Lemonade, cotton candy, deep fried anything (well, some limits) and the very best milkshakes made by the 4H club...so many flavors!
7. Music...this year Big and Rich, last year Josh Turner, several years ago, Taylor Swift. Local fiddle competitions. Cloggers and square dancers.
8. Live animal kids shows, one year it was elephants, another camels, magic shows, comedy for kiddies.
9. Draft Pony pulls.
10. Working the booths. Have worked for both Habitat for Humanity and Right to Life.
Guess I should go see what the deadline is for this year, bound to be any day now. Can't compete in the baking now that we are "pros", but one category for decorated cakes we can...maybe this year we'll give that a shot against the other "pros"! or maybe some other crafty things....
