2012 MMDT January Challenge #1-2

Now for layout two!

"It's Winter...and a few of my favorite things"

This layout is on white Mosaic Moments grid paper, in contrast to first one on black with the darker side of winter. Red is the secondary color I have emphasized.

Tami instructed us to pick at least five things that say "Winter" to us. As I said before so many things went through my head, and Tami was good at making us think outside the box. Then she began this year on her blog a Life.in.Lists challenge and some of my ideas began to list themselves something along the line of the song from the Sound of Music "raindrops on roses and snowflakes on kittens....these are a few of my favorite things..." and then the list of  pictures to take began to be assembled.

Here's my list: (from the Journaling block on page one- edited for the photos presented)

first snow on the farmers field... ice clinging to the burning bush berries... the holly and the berries in the Christmas wreath... holiday banners in the town center... a dusting of snow on the pine trees... the gazebo at night... deep red poinsettias... twinkling lights on the town Christmas tree... the empty street of the town square... sunset across a blanket of snow through the bare trees... a basketful of beautiful yarns... books stacked to read through on long winter nights... old westerns to watch while scrapbooking on a Saturday afternoon... shimmer of tree lights on the foil Christmas wrap...

On page one I did something a bit different with one of the photos I printed out. I cropped it first and then printed and sectioned with the white excess at both top and bottom. It breaks up the grid effect a little, but increased the whiteness of the page.

On page two I used a snowflake border from Martha Stewart border punches for an embellishment. I punched three sets to created a layered look with support.

Layer one of the snowflakes was attached to the red base. then the other two layers were attached using a glue runner.

After removing as much of the excess glue from between the snowflakes, a layer of glue (Martha Stewart) to cover the entire top was applied.

Using Martha Stewart's carrara marble glitter, I covered the glue and let it rest, then shook the excess back into the bottle.

You will note that the areas where some of the glue from the runner remain, glitter has stuck, removing the eyesore of glue and adding more sparkly surface.

Now, because I'd like that snow to really sparkle I added two Swarovski crystals to the snowflake border already attached to the red base with a hot fix tool. Then the top section is layered on top of that with a glue pen, further securing the crystals between the layers.

Like many of my team mates I prefer to observe the snow from the inside of the house with a good book, some knitting or scrapbooking with a movie on in the background and Saturdays in the winter are a perfect time to do all that! I do however prefer playing in the snow to driving in it, but I can't have it all my own way.

Hope you are out there getting your winter favorites into a scrapbook layout, or at least being inspired by all the neat ideas everybody has been sharing.

Thanks for taking a look...andrea

The pictures are great--especially the one of the gazebo and the tree with snow on them. It looks like something out of a storybook! The overall effect is very nice. I also loved the way you detailed the process you used for the snowflakes.
