Masada

This mosaic layout shows our day at the historic site, Masada, (Israel) which is one of the highest points above sea level. It overlooks the Dead Sea which is Earth's lowest elevation on land. After taking the cable car to the site, we saw the layers of uncovered archeological finds including underground water systems and the many rooms of the palace of King Herod. As you can see, a mosaic tile floor was uncovered. This is an example of one of earliest uses of mosaic in the world.
