My daughter recently decided to run a 5K. I guess she saw pictures of the color run in Ann Arbor and thought it would be a fun way to get herself in shape.
She found a friend to train with her, signed up so she wouldn't chicken out and then prepared herself for a 5K. I don't think she ever ran that far -- even during pom pon when she was in the best shape of her life.
This was a big deal and I wanted to make sure I recorded the memory for her.
At first, I planned to simply record the event that she participated in. But the more I looked at the photos of her smiling face -- she nearly got sick at the finish line, but ran the entire race, even when her friend started walking -- I realized that the story wasn't that she participated in the color run. The story was that she set her mind to do something, she did it and she was proud of her accomplishment.
So, I modified the page a bit to showcase the champion star she was that day.
Our challenge for this post was to use the basket-weave technique, ribbon, chipboard and patterned paper.
I decided to make my own patterned paper using the Copic Airbrushing System. I wanted to reflect the wild array of random color Korie received during the run.
I started with raspberry grid paper and attached my three strips of airbrushed paper along the side. I only glued them down at the edges so I could weave paper through them.
I then pulled out a couple of colors of Paper Tiles. These are packages of cardstock precut to fit the grid paper. I absolutely love them! I selected medium aqua and apple.
Since the Paper Tiles fit perfectly, I didn't have to cut anything. I just weaved them in and glued them down as I went.
Here's what it looked like when I was finished.
And here is how it looked when I added photos and chipboard stars.
I used a few more Paper Tiles to accent the page and for journaling. I think it turned out pretty well ... what do you think?
