MMDT Challenge #15: Home Sweet Home

Challenge #15– August Feature Grid – Sandstone

Hello everyone, and welcome to Challenge #15!! In this challenge, we were to use the August featured Grid Paper, Sandstone, and Page Pattern #59 from www.tamipotter.com. The design requirement was to create a double page by flipping the page pattern and use a panoramic photo sequence. The theme was our choice.

Since all of my time and energy is shared between work and working on my house right now, it seemed only natural to go with photos of my new house! I thought about doing a panoramic shot of the lake, but I didn't take enough pictures to cover both pages of the layout. So I decided to take a panoramic shot of my house itself. It is comprised of 6 photos, lined up mostly by the roof line and cut into the 1" x 3.25" strips across the top. Even with 6 photos, I still didn't have enough to cover both pages because my overlaps were a little too large, so I put a date cornerstone (www.tamipotter.com) on one end and some patterned paper (Cappella-Interlude from BasicGrey) on the other. It was NOT as easy as Lori made it look!

Next, I took some pictures of some of my favorite things around the house right now. A lot of personal items are still in the garage from the move as my roommate and I are doing some work on the house still. As you can see, I used one of my failed panoramic photos of the lake, a shot of the mailbox (I haven't had any time for landscaping or gardening this year because we're concentrating on the inside first, so these flowers are the only thing I planted so far!), the funky mod-looking bird feeder I hung on the front of the house, the vintage hamper the previous owner's family left for me, the totally retro bathroom vanity with the boomerang cabinet pulls and gold-flecked formica, and...oh, yes...we got a kitten.

Never having been a cat person myself, my roommate has wanted a cat for the last 2 years. When I bought this house, I told him he could get one if he wanted; our previous landlord did not allow cats. And don't you know my friend's cat had one kitten just about 4 weeks before I bought the house?? So now we have a 10 week old kitten thrown into the mix! We found out just yesterday that HE is a SHE, and now we're calling her McMuffin. She is getting along quite nicely with the dogs, and I have been spoiling her since the week before we picked her up. Sigh. So that's a picture of her on the cool bed I found at an antique shop that happened to carry the overflow from the pet store down the street. You never know where you're going to find cool stuff!

The chipboard cat is Max & Whiskers from Basic Grey and the chipboard Home Sweet Home is Life's Little Occasions from K & Co.

I hope you enjoyed your visit to my home! See you next time!!

What a great page! I love how seamless your panoramic came out. And the cat in the corner is so cute!

Love your layout Heather!!! I also enjoyed the story behind it! It's nice that you have this layout of your new home, as the years come and go, you will enjoy going back and looking at it. Great great job as always!!!

Heather, you did a GREAT job! No problem that your panoramic didn't quite fill the slots...the patterned paper and date block look GREAT!! You make due with what you have! I absolutely LOVE your bird feeder, too...that photo is so bright and the perfect photo to draw people in to look at this layout! The lake photo is beautiful, the other items are fun, and your kitty looks a lot like my two! I love that bed! Your "home sweet home" and kitty embellishment tied it all together perfectly! Really, really great job, Heather! :) P.S. Glad you didn't find it so daunting after all! :) Hugs!

As I was looking the layout over I was thinking how this would be a good idea to do every few years to follow the changes you make in your home and property! (Tami beat me to saying it!) I love that the owners left the vintage hamper, one more item (with a story)to add to your collection. The lake scene is very nice and peaceful. Nice Job, Heather!!

I am sure the lake would have been pretty in panoramic form; but, I am so glad you went with the house. The panoramic of your house turned out great! Homes change over the years and I am sure you will be glad to have the vishal reminder of how your new home started out. (BTW I have used the same tricks when I didn't have quite enough photo to fill the space.)
