MMDT #8 - Pop Culture

Challenge number 8 was a photo challenge, to be inspired by pop culture from the decade you were born.  Well, here’s a little bit of info on the “pop culture” of MY decade…the 60s!

*Peace and love were the themes and the Civil Rights Movement changed society significantly.  The peace sign was everywhere!

*Man went into space and walked on the moon.

*TV is the new centerpiece.  COLOR TV arrived in the early 60s.

*Colors were bright and psychedelic.

AND….

* “The 1960's were a time of upheaval in society, fashion, attitudes and especially music. In 1963 and the years to follow, a number of social influences changed what popular music was and gave birth to the diversity that we experience with music today.”  Elvis returned from military service, the Beatles burst onto the music scene, and a huge variety of styles was born…the British Invasion, Motown, the revival of folk music, beach music, the emergence of “girl groups”, acid rock and psychedelic rock. Woodstock anyone?!

Well, anyone that knows me can tell you that I am a music junkie, and the classic rock of the 60s-80s is my favorite.  I love going to concerts with all of the classic rock bands of those decades.  When the “Happy Together” tour came to the MN State Fair, I had to go!  The show featured members of Sixties bands:  The Association (3 of the originals), the Buckingham’s (2 of the originals), the guitar player from the Grass Roots (unfortunately the lead singer passed away just shortly before this appearance), Mark Lindsay from Paul Revere and the Raiders, and Flo and Eddie of The Turtles.

My photos aren’t as great as I would have liked, but at least I got some!  Some were taken of the members while they were shown on the big screens (an extension of the development of color TV in the 60s!).  I also used clips from the Happy Together poster.

In my layout I incorporated the Peace sign cornerstone, the psychedelic patterned paper (from Recollections), and the bright colors of the 60s.  The grid paper is Raspberry, and the tiles and circles are cyclamin pink and black.  The first page pattern is a variation of Page Pattern #19.  The second, just making the pictures fit! :)

PEACE!

The patterned paper is perfect for this page along with the peace sign. I remember the 60s very well and you really captured the time perfectly.

Everything about this layout makes me smile. I love the colors...your patterned paper is perfect and how great that you were able to get current photos of all of those stars from the 60s!! Fabulous, Baby!!

Excellent! The 60s were indeed a season of transition and what better way than to celebrate this than through the music. When I started college in the fall of 1967, we were expected to "dress" for dinner -- i.e. wear dresses to the cafeteria. By the time I graduated five years later, it was anything goes! Totally, awesomely wonderful. Thanks for the memories.

This was the perfect time to use that "Peace" CornerStone. You've done a great job capturing the mood of music from the 60's!

Yes Andrea, they are the new circle tile frames! Loved getting to try them!

Lori! I loved reading your post! It sounded like so much fun! The colors you used are beautiful. I love the psychedelic colors of that decade too. I'm a 1970's baby, but I think both decades represent a time when life was a bit simpler. I love your journaling in the bottom right as well. Very nicely done. As they said in the 70's- it's groovy!!!!! Lol.

Lori! Did you use circle tiles frames on the page two corners? It makes them just like the sleeves for the 45's..."so, cool" to quote the times. The paper is wild...so much the 60's and on the Raspberry Grid Paper it couldn't be a better fit. That so many of the groups are still making the rounds and you were able to capture some photos too super! Music certainly carried the messages of that decade.
