Create a page that is inspired by the events, entertainment, or fashion, etc. of that decade.
You can use images from the decade but there must be at least one main focal photo that is current.
In your Journella Post you should include the decade and items/events chosen for inspiration as well as further explanation of the inspiration. (If possible include images or words that inspired your page(s).
When I thought about the decade I was born (the 1970s), I had a hard time thinking of something I could take a current photograph of that would correspond to something that was popular back then. I thought about the very first video game: PONG!
I had PONG when I was little, and I remember playing for hours upon hours. I found this image online and pictured immediately how I could use black paper and Spring Green Grid Paper to reproduce the classic PONG screen as a background for my photos. I pictured the paddles as the 1” x 3.25” PaperTiles and the ball, of course, would be a 1” square tile.
I thought I should keep with the game theme and reminisced about games I played in the 70s versus the games I play today. Back then, I played board games with my family, PONG and eventually Atari at the end of the 70s. That’s me and my Pop-Pop playing Candy Land and Tennis. Look at those vintage yellow yarn ribbons in my hair!! I used photos of vintage wooden Scrabble tiles for my THEN title.
Today, my roommate and I play Halo on Xbox…slightly more advanced than PONG! I play a lot of games on my iPhone, including Candy Crush Saga, Angry Birds and Words with Friends. They may not look like photos, but they are…taken from my phone during play. The NOW title is made from photos of the Words with Friends letter tiles from my phone. I like the way they contrast with the vintage Scrabble tiles for my THEN title.
Thanks for joining me in this blast from the past!
