MMDT Challenge #4: Mingerella

This challenge was to choose a Walt Disney movie and let it inspire the pictures you take/use.

When I first read this challenge, I panicked. I don't have children, and I myself have not seen many Disney movies. I do have dogs, so I thought about Lady and the Tramp...nah. I've seen the Little Mermaid and love the music, but couldn't think of any photos that would fit. So I went back to basics and thought about the classics. Cinderella. A rags to riches type story.

As I sat on the couch pondering the story of Cinderella, I glanced over and saw my rescue pup, Ming, lying on the couch next to me...sound asleep...head on a pillow...covered by a blanket...not a care in the world. A little over a year ago, she was rescued from a puppy mill, where she spent more than 5 years of her life in a crate with probably little or no human contact. She's come a long way, thanks to a wonderful lady named Terri, who rescued her from the mill and fostered her until she found her forever home. Now Ming is living in the lap of luxury with her sister Risi. She has a warm bed with her name on it, she spends ZERO time in a crate unless she goes in there on her own, she gets to go shopping, she goes on walks and she's really starting to enjoy being with people. She and Risi play all day and get to sleep in their human's bed every night. Rags to riches? You decide. Here is the story of Mingerella...

For page 1, I used a slightly modified version of page pattern 19-Checker Inset Border from I used Spring Green grid paper and pink and blue Paper Tiles from The patterned paper and chipboard embellishments (hats and frog) are from the Imaginesce "Fairest of Them All" collection and the ink and stamps are from Stampin' Up! Mingerella was cut using the Storybook font (of course!) from Cricut.

Here is the journaling from page 1:

For page 2, I used a true mirror image of page pattern 19:

Here is the journaling for page 2:

I hope you enjoyed viewing my layout as much as I did creating it. This was by far the toughest challenge for me yet. But I'm very happy with the way it turned out! Thanks for stopping by!

ok, Let me first say that I do not know how I missed this. Very touching story. I love dogs an I hate to think of them being alone and abused. Thank God for people like you! Now she is living it up and deserves it! Nice pictures and a beautiful way to tell her story!

Ming's story is precious. Isn't it great how the Disney perspective enables us to look at our lives a bit differently? I'm doing a mental happy dance for Ming's good fortune and enjoyed the magical moments you shared on your pages. Great job.

Kudos for the Fairy Foster Godmother! Glad she did the rescue so we could all share in this beautiful story and the beautiful pages brought about because of the caring people in this doggie's life.

Not only are you a great scrapbooker, you are a wonderful storyteller! I SO enjoyed the story (or should I say fairy tale!?) that you wrote! The photos are so cute, and I love the title, the "Once Upon a Time", and the patterned paper. Great job, Heather!

What a "rags-to-riches" story. The colors are absolutely perfect. The way you told the story in your journaling about how Fairy Foster Godmother changed Ming's life is heartwarming and very sweet. Love it.

So sweet! I like how you made her name part of the title of Cinderella. The whole layout is awesome!

Love that you incorporated patterned paper with princess castles and embellishments to match the story you are telling. What a lovely way of doing that too! It's a shame Ming won't appreciate the page, but you and her Fairy Foster Godmother will treasure it forever!

This is just too cute! I love the story of Mingerella. The page title is great - love the "once upon a time". The addition of the crowns and princess hats, very clever - love it!

That's a very beautiful story of Ming's life. I must admit, I did have to read the story in private away from our dog, Brigadier.... You see, Briggy is spoiled, but he has never gotten his own turkey leg. Great job- this is one of my favorites!!!
