The Joy of Wind Chimes
Wind Chimes
I have always loved wind chimes! It is nature's instrument to create music with a gentle breeze or even super bursts of wind. To listen to them and I mean "really" listening to them, can bring a tingle of happiness to your thoughts. They produce mystical music for your enjoyment weather they a small little klinkles (I made up this word.) or massive bongs.. they all have a messages of enlightenment.
I have two huge wind chimes that when the wind blows strong, you can't carry on a conversation from their bold noise! When the wind is gentle... they carry a whole new tune to enjoy. "Laughing"
Many moons ago, I had a very special friend who past away several years ago, but the memory of her beloved tree always brings a smile to my heart. She had a huge tree in her back yard, that for some reason died. That tree had been in her life since the day she was born. Her parents left her the home and she lived in it all of her life along with that tree! She did not want to cut it down.
After two years of seeing the massive, dead tree in her back yard she wanted to see it alive again in some way. Her 76th birthday was coming up and as usual, myself and other friends were invited to celebrate. I was not sure what to give her on this special day. She seemed to have everything already. I thought, "Maybe, a book or some flowers." Neither one of those ideas seemed like good choices. I wanted something spectacular to give her and they just did not seem spectacular at all! One morning, as I was getting a cup of coffee, I glanced over at my sink. Above it, I had a small wind chime hanging above the open window. It was chiming from the breeze flowing through the window. I hurried to the phone and began calling everyone with my idea of the perfect gift for our friend. All of us were going to give her wind chimes!
She sure was overwhelmed when she saw all of the wind chimes once she had unwrapped her gifts. She sweetly said, "Thank you so much, but what am I going to do with all of these wind chimes?" All of us were laughing and excited to tell her why we had all gotten her wind chimes. We guided her out to her beloved tree friend with each of us bringing the wind chime we had given her. We stood in front of the tree that had died and seemed to not have any purpose any longer, but too loved to cut down. She looked at the tree and then at the wind chimes. Her hands covered her mouth as tears of joy fell from her face. "Those wind chimes are for my tree!" She said, as the tears kept flowing, mixed with giggles of excitement. By the time we left, that tree was loaded with thirty-two wind chimes, playing music by the wind blowing through the dead, strong, branches.
Every time we visited her after that, we were enchanted by that tree and its musical wind chimes. One of the wind chimes was very special. it was handmade with over forty spoons, forks and butter knives, strung with thin rope and a few quartz crystals between the knots. It was a conversation piece, beautiful and unique to watch.
(This is not her tree, but it gives you an idea of what we did.)
