2013 Challenge #21:The Scavenger Hunt

Welcome to my portion of the Hunt. The Scavenger Hunt list began with around 44 items to search and shoot. Additionally, the challenge was to include some macro shots giving an up close look at ordinary things in an extraordinary way. Any choice of items to be included was up to each designer. How creative they were in the process would also go to deciding who would win the prize! Of course there is a prize, a $10.00 gift certificate to the www.Snapncrop.com site! One winner will be chosen after the closing date of November 7th, 2013. I'm sure I'll have a hard time deciding because I'm expecting lots of creative presentations!  There's still time to join in!!

I began with a pair of plum 12 x 12 Mosaic Moments Grid Papers because I really liked how the photos were enhanced. It brought a new dimension to the woods and the reds that were lost on the more traditional fall colors I had planned on using. My measure of a wonderful fall is how much red shows up in the leaves. From a deep, dark red to bright red-oranges I love the brilliant festival of colors. Some years the trees are a dismal brown and never meet their full potential, but this year from the yellows to the browns and everything else in between...I had fun hunting for my reds in October! 

You will see that I have used six different size tiles for the photos and that they vary in short distance away, near, close and very close shots. In all my ramblings, I had forgotten to get any fabulous landscapes! However, I had more than enough and variety of photos to choose from…and there just might be a layout or two to come.

The Scavenger Hunt and my search for Red in October

Fall began early around here this year and the glorious colors are still hanging in even though the nights grow shorter and colder and winter is just around the corner. I anticipated a lot of color, especially red, and I was not disappointed! I was so looking forward to hunting in some of my favorite spots, the county parks, Fall Foliage Tour, the back roads of the county and backyards. Also enjoying some time to myself! Every time I returned to a spot I had just passed where something caught my eye, I was rewarded. It was well worth it.

My favorite find in all this was a photo once I printed it realized it had four different finds! The thing I was most surprised by was how much beauty there is in the things I normally overlook in the fall. I love admiring the trees with brilliant colors as I drive by, but it was the stop and look things that really thrilled me this year.

The thing I learned on the hunt was how many different purple flowers are blooming in the fall. In fact the photo I would say is my favorite is of one purple flower with an insect on it that came out so focused! However, the veins in the red leaf is a wow for me as a macro shot, and I really found the tiny holes in the rings of the rotting railroad tie to keep me fascinated.

Overall, the Scavenger Hunt made me take a closer look and to enjoy the details of fall. 

The photo on this page that I was the most interesting was the rotting railroad tie. Seeing all the tiny holes in the rings of the tree are amazing! I also love the colors in the Indian corn…the swirls of color is something I never noticed before! The grasses at the roadside glowed with the sun shining through and I had passed them by, but had to return to take a few photos!!

This page has my favorite photo. The purple flower with the insect! I never really know until I’m looking at things on the computer screen if things in my macro shots are in focus so this was exciting to see! The red leaf veins…were a wow for me…again, in focus! Finally, the one photo that I hadn’t planned on was the frosty leaf. I was on my way out for a foggy morning shot or two after dropping my daughter off at work when I saw these frosty leaves in her new front yard and had to stop and jump out of the car for an impromptu “photo session”, not sure what the new neighbors thought…but I was having fun…and she was laughing at me! Oh, the stories my kids will tell about me when I’m gone!!
