Challenge #14 Series of Photos: My Story Girl
Choose a subject and photograph a series of images based on that subject.
In your Journella Post you should include a description of your subject and tell us why you chose that subject to photograph.
I chose my granddaughter Isabella. She has been a subject of many of the photos I've taken since she was born. She is a never ending canvas of delight as she expresses so much at each new experience. The shame is I’ve only captured a small portion of the wonder I have seen in her face as she discovers something new. This was to be one more opportunity to write a piece of her childhood in pictures.
I had several different plans of what I wanted to do and it kept changing. Finally, a trip up to my Mum’s with Izzy and my girls to visit with hopes to get some pictures of her interacting with her great-grandmother. We had friends who were also going to be there for lunch, she was bringing her grandson, a year younger than Izzy, and the thought was of getting some great baby to baby shots and have lots of choices to pick and choose from. In the end it wasn’t anything I planned, but a moment…well, several minutes actually, of antics from Izzy as she sat on the bottom of the stairs with a Thomas Kinkaid coaster. During this whole period of time she never let go of it! Over 60 photos were taken of this show and I’ve whittled it down to 20. I’ve tried to get the essence of what she was up to and not lose the feel of motion through it all. They are all in order of occurrence across the top from top left to right and then along the bottom left to right again.
I struggled with a title to go with this that would convey what was going on but it just didn’t come. Idea after idea and nothing seemed right. It was late and I was wrapping things up for the night, almost everything was put away when it came to me…The Story Girl! How did I miss that? You see, we are long time readers of LM Montgomery (Anne of Green Gables and more) this is the title of one of her works, it was also the title of the pilot for the series Road to Avonlea (Canadian production) and finally, it is the name of my daughter Hannah’s bakery…Story Girl Cakes. In the end I decided to make the title “My” Story Girl. The center photo on page two is a close up of the coaster she was holding , so I will long remember what held her fascination.

Journaling:
Last week Isabella, Libby, Hannah and I were visiting with my Mum. Isabella has a fascination with coasters. My Mum’s were no exception. She sat with one and talked and talked…telling her stories. She was the only one who knew what she was saying, but from her facial expressions and hand gestures we knew she was intent on what she was saying. Then she began an odd game of “standing” on her head!
She’d then whip up and begin again to bob up and down. Occasionally she’d pause to say something and point to the carpet and laugh. She was so funny! When she’d had enough of that she took another long look at her coaster, chatted some more, sat quietly for a moment and then got up and walked away. These are a few of the highlights. Center photo is of the coaster. July 2013
... and From Behind the Scenes....
The other day Isabella came in and was watching me work on the pages. When she realized who it was in the photos she just laughed. She pointed to all the photos and babbled away some more! I've also included a few photos that once I saw what was going on in them, I laughed. The first page is close-ups of Izzy, the second page is Izzy…and me (in the background)…both of us talking with our hands! Too funny! Hannah managed to catch these and I had to share them too!
Behind the scenes photos of Izzy as captured by Auntie Hannah...

Izzy and Granny Book Club. On this page Corduroy and his friends were having a picnic...and they were eating cupcakes. I think this was a commentary on 'why weren't we having cupcakes at our luncheon.'
Thanks for stopping in and sharing some special moments with me in this series of photos of one of my favorite subjects!
